Want to learn more about Millcreek's first Citizen Assembly and how you can get involved? RSVP below for our briefing! You'll learn what a Citizen Assembly is, how to volunteer, how to become a delegate, and other ways to give input! The call is hosted by the nonprofit organization YOUnify, which is partnering with Millcreek to conduct the Assembly. We'll be joined by Mayor Jackson, District 1 City Council Representative Silvia Catten, and Communications Director Rita Lund.
Here's a preview:
A Citizen Assembly is a way for everyday people to influence local laws. As a Millcreek resident, you have the opportunity to make history as this will be one of the first Citizen Assemblies in the U.S.!
First the city will mail out invitations to residents with all the details.
Out of everyone who responds, we will randomly select people, like in a lottery, to create a mini-snapshot of the community
The people chosen will represent every slice of our community, from age and income to political affiliation, ensuring everyone’s voice gets heard. Plus we will gather input from the broader community for the Assembly members to consider.
Once the assembly members are chosen, they will:
- Learn about the issue
- Discuss the issue
- Make recommendations
Mayor Jackson and the City Council will formally consider the recommendations and respond, maybe even making them into law!
